Safe Handling of Alternative Fuels. The transition from the fuel conveyor to the pyroprocessing system (calciner) poses a safety challenge, as emergency shutdowns of the production process can cause hot gas to flow back into the fuel conveyor. To prevent a fire risk, A TEC has developed the swivel chute—a proven component—to automatically stop the fuel supply in an emergency, even if the fuel conveyor is still running. The chute “swivels” out of position automatically under its own weight, and the opening to the calciner is closed by a slide gate. Any remaining alternative fuel slides down the chute into a collection container (not included).
